The Emotion Advant-Edge

If the manufacturer of the Emotion Edge Kayak was so proud of that kayak that they just had to call it “sexy”, then surely the Emotion Advant-Edge should be called “super sexy.”  The Advant-Edge is the longer, sleeker more decked-out version of the Edge.  The Advant-Edge kayak comes with many of the standard features of the Emotion kayak line, but it incorporates many new added features for improved performance and a stream-lined design.

When comparing the two models, Edge and Advant-Edge, straight away the differences in design will stand out.  The hull is narrower and considerably longer.  It has more of a pointed look and in fact almost resembles a larger version of the Emotion Bliss.

Emotion AdvantEdge – The New Design

The Advant-Edge carries most of the standard features of previous models of Emotion kayaks and the features not found in the list are gone only because they were improved upon.  Let’s start with the outside.  Here you’ll find the hull is made from a tough, impact resistant, weather proof and UV resistant plastic.  The plastic compound used has been designed to last for years to come and resist wear and tear.  The dynamics of the hull are clean and well thought out, giving you a kayak that slides easily through the water and tracks where you want to go without any annoying wandering about.  It has great acceleration and steers well.

Though the hull is narrower than the Edge, almost no space was lost for the kayaker.  It’s spacious and comfortable with lots of room for your feet and it’s still easy to get in and out of.  In the cockpit are the adjustable foot braces, ensuring that paddlers of all sizes can comfortably operate the Advant-Edge.  With these come hip and thigh braces to give added support and leverage for better paddling, which means better performance and a better experience for the paddler.

Another interesting feature on the Advant-Edge, and used also on the Emotion Bliss, are the carrying handles on each end of the hull.  Other models had T-shaped handles on a cord that, while functioning perfectly well, were not as pleasing to the eye and were easily knocked about by the water.  The new handles on the Advant-Edge are molded as part of the hull and look almost like the eye of a needle.  They fit perfectly and comfortable into your hand and they are doubly useful as a means of securing the kayak to a mooring or on top of your car with ropes.

I’m happy with the color choices on this model, too.  You have six options.  There’s nice sky blue, a vibrant yellow, a bright orange, the stone cold granite, pea-pod lime green, and purple haze.

Emotion AdvantEdge – Storage and more storage!

An additional new eye catching feature is the hatch placed on the stern of the kayak.   This is probably my favorite new design feature for this model.  I love extra storage and in this case, extra dry storage.  The hatch is easily accessible from the cockpit and is completely water tight.  Behind the padded seat is a bulkhead separating the cockpit from the hatch compartment, making it a true dry box.  It also doubles as added floatation.  Gone is the inflatable float bag that you have to manually inflate.   For even more added utility are some bungees crisscrossing the hatch so you can secure light items to the outside for quick access.

Speaking of quick access, there are more great storage features inside the Emotion Advant-Edge as well!  On the sides are very handy fishnet cargo pockets, perfect for any small gear, tackle or snacks.  And directly in front of the paddler is a glove box.  More storage for your day on the water!  As a bonus, Emotion has included a free dry box that fits snuggly into the glove compartment in case you want to bring along anything that shouldn’t get wet.  Have I mentioned the drink holder?  Yeah, there a drink holder, too!

Emotion AdvantEdge – More Technical Details

The Advant-Edge is the longest sit-inside kayak offered by Emotion Kayaks at 12 feet 7 inches long.  It’s a roomy 28 inches wide and weighs in at 45 lbs.  That might be a bit heavy for a smaller framed person to carry long distances, but should be fine for transporting from car to launch.  Otherwise there are carrying handles on each end if you have a friend to help you.  The carrying capacity of the Advant-Edge is a hefty 325 lbs.  You should have no problems carrying extra gear or any heavy fish you may catch along the way.  As with all Emotion Kayaks, you are covered by a three year warranty on the hull.

With the new hull design, the stability, the speed and all the storage options, the Emotion Advant-Edge is a great kayak for causal paddling, exercise, long trips, like lake or bay crossings, shorter excursions on rivers or fishing trips.
